Desdemona:
The main woman in the play.
A woman of the 17th century .
Desdemona is a Venetian beauty who disappoints her father, a Venetian senator, when she elopes with Othello the black Moor.
Some of her traits are: Beautiful, romantic, loyal, trusting, naive, and innocent
1-I saw Othello’s visage in his mind, And to his honours and his valiant parts Did I my soul and fortunes consecrate. ( III. III. 253-255)
2"My noble father,I do perceive here a divided duty:To you I am bound for life and education; My life and education both do learn meHow to respect you; you are the lord of duty;I am hitherto your daughter: but here's my husband,And so much duty as my mother show'dTo you, preferring you before her father,So much I challenge that I may professDue to the Moor my lord..." (I,III,180-188)
3-, “O, who hath done this deed?” Desdemona’s final words are, “Nobody, I myself. Farewell. Commend me to my kind lord. O, farewell” (V.ii.133–134)
In response to Emilia’s question
4-why do you think Desdemona left her father for Othello and ignored all the people who were against her relation?
I
1-When Desdemona left the house of her father, Brabantio, to go with the Moor, Othello, she didn't ask her father’s permission, she decided on her own to marry Othello without asking her father’s permission, decided on her own to marry Othello
2-By marrying Othello, Desdemona was showing that she was strong enough and educated enough to break the authority of the society on women.
3-. when Othello accused Desdemona of adultery, she went to Iago for help She was a very trusting person and did not think that Iago would hurt her.
She does not listen to Othello’s accusations, but instead tries to explain her situation. She could easily let Othello control her, but she made her point known and told the truth about her circumstance and at the end She was ultimately murdered by the only person who she loved.
As a conclusion we can say that Desdemona was a loving wife who loved Othello to death and who fought all her family for him . Her role is to serve as a catalyst for Othello's jealousy. In the end Desdemona had what we call the "last laugh". Her ability to not lay blame nor accuse or be angry to anybody, that basically makes her the hero and the highest quality person in this play. While the roles of women always seemed to be the ones that were behind their husbands, Desdemona took this role and gave it her own attitude. So Desdemona, was stronger than the man she stood behind.
explaining the quotes
1- This quote shows how Desdemona loved Othello for his mind , body, reputation and all his actions, and she gave all her herself to him spiritually and practically and she continued to love him throughout all the events .
2- Here Desdemona professes her love for Othello in front of her father and the court. By doing so she assures that no magic power were used and she also explaines how she went with Othello freely, by. By confessing her love to him , Desdemona is presenting to Othello her faithfulness to him because she is allowing all in the court to know about her love.
3- She said that in response to Emilia’s question, although she was dying , she wanted to show her husband that she was the most honest women and by her willingness to take credit for her own murder she showed how great a her love to Othello could be.
4- think Desdemona wanted to gain some kind of power herself. Thus she decided to take her relationship into her own hands and ignored the tradition.
