Emilia:

The role of Emilia was so important :
At the beginning of the play Emilia appears to be a loyal companion to Desdemona.
Emilia gets Desdemona to reveal many of her personal feelings as well. They are good friends and Desdemona is very honest with her.

Then Emilia was Iago secret weapon to get his hands on Desdemona's handkerchief .
She gives the handkerchief dropped by Desdemona to Iago. Emilia is loyal to her husband, so she takes the handkerchief without question. She wants to please him, so she betrays Desdemona's confidence to steal the handkerchief.
Emilia also gives us insight to Iago. We see how he treats the women who are close to him. In the end, she lures the truth out of him and clarifies to the other characters what was going on.
She showed strong loyalty and bond towards Desdemona by denouncing Iago's lies.
